Meas Soksophea and Karona Pich from Town Production

Town production will be releasing its new album soon after the previous album drew more attention from fans because of well-know singer Meas Soksophea. Today, Karona Pich announced on this facebook that he and Meas Soksophea will perform CTN’s A1 Concert and sing songs in new album and he added that new album also was on sales on the market already.

Kry Sok Y, deputy prosecutor at Phnom Penh Municipal Court, said Meas Soksophea – best known for the hits I am sorry and 1,000 nights – appeared for questioning on Monday of last week in connection with a complaint lodged by Doung Channimol, president of the Support Association for the Ethical Education of Children in Cambodia.

Doung Channimol submitted a complaint to the court in September of last year accusing Meas Soksophea of failing to sing at a fundraiser in Germany, and demanding €36,960 (US$51,389) in compensation.

Meas Soksophea could not be reached for comment, but her brother Meas Sokrattanak denied the accusations.

He said Meas Soksophea had been contracted to sing at four events in Europe and was supposed to be paid after each appearance.

After completing three of the events without receiving payment, she called it quits, he said.

“I asked her to return back to Cambodia though the programme was not fully complete yet because I do not want my sister to suffer further deception when she got nothing for her previous performances,” he said.

Meas Soksophea and Karona Pich

Two famous singers from Town production, Meas Soksophea and Karona Pich, were invited to perform at Retrey Kumsan of CTN’s program this evening (Oct 02, 2010), making interview with the personal life and careers of stars.

Before, going to attend CTN’s program, Meas Soksophea announced in her facebook by saying that:

I will be performing with pich on ctn tonight Retrey kumsan at 5pm today if you get chance to watch also Metphone lucky draw on Bayon t.v…have a wonderfull and safe weekend…PLEASE dont drink and drive nahh.

Meas Soksophea also appeals to all Cambodian youths that “If you drink beer, please do not drive. All motorcycle drivers should not drive along the car lance in order to avoid road accident”.

Title ‘I Am Sorry’  which is a video music in fourth album of Town production, was sang by Meas Soksophea. And it is her first album after she left Sunday production.

Hopefully, she will be able to retrieve her reputation after her reputation disappeared in the public.

Meas Soksophea

Meas Soksophea has been my favourite female Khmer singer for a while now, in fact since I heard her rendition of the love song What You Don’t Know, which you can hear and see for yourself in the video. She also sang the theme song from the film The Red Sense, which is a beautiful song.

Recently married, therefore disappointing all of her male fans in Cambodia, Sophea has been increasing her online presence in the past few months, embracing facebook and twitter with regular updates via the latter.

Chancing my arm, I sent her a message and a few questions, which she graciously responded to within 24 hours this weekend and which I repeat below. In what other country would a nation’s favourite singing sweetheart reply to an email, let alone within 24 hours? My sincere thanks to Sophea.

Q. When did you record What You Don’t Know?

A. My record company asked me to record it in April 2008. I sang in both English and Khmer because the Cambodian audience like mixed songs now, and other nationalities like Korean, Chinese and Indians are also doing mixed language songs. The video was shot locally in a ‘green’ room with 3D animation effects.

Q. Tell me about the theme song for the film, Red Sense.

A. I recorded [Svaeng Rouk Pop Tmei; aka Walk to Freedom] about 3 years ago with Phoeurk Chantha. It’s a very beautiful song, but you know, I don’t even have the audio anymore and I haven’t even seen the film. [Note - the film score for The Red Sense was composed by Robert John Sedky and the film itself has been shown twice in Cambodia.]

Q. Can you tell me more about the recording process?

A. For many songs I just go into the studio and get it done. I don’t always know exactly what film or project it’s for. My job is to sing the song as well as I can though usually its for a good cause or project. I trust my studio team, a famous musical teacher here is in charge and I trust him too, he’s a good person and has been in the music industry all his life. I know that if he’s behind it, it will be for a great film or a good cause like to stop disease, or help with Aids or teach children to wash their hands, for example.

Q. What are your personal favourites?

A. I have many favourite songs, even many overseas songs that I’ve sung, it’s so hard to pick. There are so many great song writers too. The most successful of my songs would have to be 1,000 nights and more recently, I Am Sorry, because I have never given my all in acting as much as I did in that video and in part 2 as well. Part 3 is soon to be released. This song was very successful and got many great reviews, which I was so pleased about.

Khmer Singer: Meas Soksophea

Khmer singer, Meas Sokshophea, is recognized as a popular singer in M productions and Sunday Production. And she is noticed that she likes changing from one production to another one after her songs are supported by Cambodian young fans. Many questions are raised and asked that why she changed production when she was gaining reputation and popularity?

In last few weeks, she just released her first album of Town Production, containing only four songs after her contract with Sunday production ended. They doubt that she will be able to regain her popularity in new production. Even though, it is noticed that her news songs has been supported amongst young fans.

In the past, she had many scandals, such as photos that she is kissing with her boyfriend was published on many local magazines. Previously, it was reported that she got married to a Cambodian-Canadian man at the end of last year, who is a man photographed with her. But until now, she herself still does not reveal the truth to public yet. Her wedding is still in doubt. Did she tie a knot to her boyfriend?

Young Cambodian fans always want to know whether a well-known singer Meas Soksophea really has husband but some news reported that she really got married secretly at the end of 2009 but other reported that she is still single. Until now, she still does not reveal by herself to public about her wedding life. I just spotted two wedding pictures of Meas Soksophea on website www.mycambodia.tv. is it true?

These photos really show that she got married already to man living abroad. By the way, recently other local news revealed that she split with her husband. Therefore, she is afraid of telling her private life in public. Even thought, her brother Meas Sokratanak denied this rumor. But it is still doubt.

Sokratanak told Sabay that “my sister and bride’s side properly got married, so that how do they split? because they love each other so much.

We are aware that her brother, Sokratanak, always defends his sister. And he is a song writer for his sister to sing. In fact, she got married to Cambodian-Canadian man since December 28, 2009.

I am always doubt why Meas Soksophea does not dare to tell the public that she really got married. Maybe she has some problem with husband or she does not want her popularity to decrease if she said that she has husband. Is it right?

Her brother, Meas Sokratana, was quoted by Sabsay as saying that Meas Soksophea is going to perform weekend concerts at Bayon Channel on Saturday and TV5 on Sunday over this weekend in order to promote her new songs recorded for Town Production instead of Press Conference.

It is not sure whether her new songs will be supported or not. Previously, our songs recorded for Production M and Sunday were popular and supported by young fans.

Now, we wait and see how many songs she will sing over this weekend. Wishing her good luck for new songs for youths.

Reportedly, she was married to her boyfriend living in Canada at the end of last year and her marriage also ended as well but her brother, Sok Rathanak, rejected what was reported by the local news and said that his sister does not marry yet.

Despite, she got married or not, she should reveal this rumor in order to clarify the truth. If she does not, she probably got married and tries to hide it from reporters. How do you think about?
