Doung Zorida, 27, who is TV presenter, actress and Model, is preparing her three plans with her fiancé before her marriage. Those plans are that (1) a couple have their own responsibility to organize their wedding by themselves, (2) buy a house for their wedding celebration, and (3) allocate budget for spending on their kids, according to local magazine.

She was quoted by Angkor Thom magazine as saying that “we will implement these plans, I think that our wedding life is successful.”

Doung Zorida planned to marry in 2010 but she delayed her wedding celebration until mid-2011 and at the end of 2011 because she is so busy with her work. By the way, she noticed that her fellow actresses’ wedding was easily broken in 2010, therefore she needs to postpone her wedding event.

NBC plans to boost riel purchases to $48 million

THE National Bank of Cambodia plans to purchase a further US$5 million worth of riels to shore up the currency, bringing total purchases to $48 million for the year.

Cambodia’s currency is down nearly 2 percent against the greenback since mid-April, but has held steady since the central bank began pursuing a more interventionist currency policy in May, according to industry observers.

“With the National Bank of Cambodia’s currency buys, we see the riel currency has remained at a constant level since May – it has not depreciated since then,” the owner of Phnom Penh’s Ly Hour exchange, Sieng Lim, said yesterday.

The riel had depreciated 1.95 percent by yesterday to 4,272 riels per dollar from 4,190 riels per dollar in mid-April, according to Ly Hour data.

The depreciation drove the NBC to purchase riels in a bid to create artificial demand for the notes and raise its value against the greenback.

NBC director general Tal Nay Im said the riel generally appreciates starting October.

“The riel depreciates seasonally. We do not see anything abnormal,” she said.

“Every year, it begins to return to normal levels of between 4,100 and 4,200 per US dollar in October, as the harvest season approaches.”

Last year’s total for riel purchased by the NBC was $54 million. Tal Nay Im has suggested there may be further purchases of riel this year to shore up its value.

“We expect to sell a similar amount of US dollars this year to appreciate the riel as we did in 2009,” she said.

The next $5 million will be auctioned off in five separate $1 million lots from September 1 to 10, at the central bank’s headquarters on Phnom Penh’s Norodom Boulevard, according to an announcement released on Friday and signed by the NBC director general.

AsiaInfo-Linkage inks contract with Mfone

NASDAQ-listed AsiaInfo-Linkage has signed its first contract outside China with Cambodia’s mobile-phone service provider Mfone, according to an official.

The firm is a provider of telecoms software and IT security, and will develop a “business intelligence” system to give Mfone an edge in the Kingdom’s crowded mobile-phone sector.

AsiaInfo officials declined to comment on the cost and role of the system yesterday, and one official said the firm’s management had “decided to keep a low profile” on the deal.

However, in a press release announcing the agreement, the firm said the business intelligence system was designed primarily to enhance Mfone’s business analysis capabilities in the Cambodian marketplace.

“The system is being built in response to increased competition in the Cambodian telecommunications market,” it said.

According to AsiaInfo-Linkage’s website, the system allows telecoms operators to “win new customers and expanding market share at a cost lower than that of their competitors”.

It uses data warehousing to assist service providers with decision-making while lowering costs by “focusing on the most exploitable customer group while attracting new customers”, it said.

AsiaInfo-Linkage boasts several of the largest Chinese mobile providers – including China Mobile and China Telecom – as clients.

Meanwhile, Mfone has grown to become the third-largest mobile service provider in the Kingdom as measured by active subscriber numbers, according to the most recent information from Cambodia’s Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications.

CEO Adisai Soonthornratanarak previously told the Post that Mfone – 51 percent owned by Thaicom and 49 percent by Asia Mobile Holdings – looked to increasingly target specific demographics.

Mfone has launched SIMs targeted towards Korean and Muslim people living in Cambodia during the last two months, joining a number of tariffs such as those aimed at Chinese-Cambodians and businessmen. Mfone’s CEO could not be reached for comment yesterday.

Licadho Staffer Sentenced to Two Years for Leaflet Distribution

Four men including a human rights worker received lengthy jail sentences in Takeo province Monday, after they were found guilty of distributing leaflets allegedly insulting the former king and the government.

Leang Sokchoeun, a 28-year-old staff member of Licadho, fainted after hearing his guilty verdict and two-year prison sentence. He was taken to the provincial hospital in an ambulance.

Two other men, Thack Vannak, 34, a Vietnamese interpreter; and Thach Le, a 61-year-old motorcycle taxi driver, both received two-year sentences. A fourth man, a monk named Thach Kong Phuong, 34, who remains at large, was sentenced to three years in absentia.

All four are accused of distributing leaflets in Takeo province critical of the January holiday celebrating the ouster of the Khmer Rouge from Phnom Penh by Vietnamese forces. The January Seven holiday is politically devisive, with some hailing it as a day of liberation and others as a herald of a decade of occupation.

The court said police had provided evidence and witness testimony placing the men at the site of a leaflet distribution.

However, Am Sam Ath, a senior investigator for Licadho, said the decision was unfair and the evidence unclear. The sentencing appeared to be the result of “pressure from politicans or government officials,” he said.

Teng Leakhena to open her clothing shop this year

Movie actress and TV presenter, Teng Leakhen plans to operate her own clothing shop at the end of this year, according to Angkor Thom magazine. She is building her popularity during the last two years after she has entered the performing art nearly four years.

She told magazine that she allocates $50,000 for opening her garment shop at the end of 2010. And she will also purchase all clothes from Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong. But she does not show the place of her shop yet.

In fact, she had two projects to operate this year- Clothing shop and Tourism agency- but she postponed opening Tourism Agency because she lacks capital.
